Readers,
We have decided to make a film trailer in the genre of Horror for our A2 coursework. I have decided to research the Hollywood giant Tim Burton and his influences for his work.
His early film career was fueled by a huge amount
of good luck, but its his talent and originality that have kept him at the top
of the Hollywood ladder. Tim Burton began drawing at an early age, going on to
attend the California Institute of the Arts studying animation after being
awarded a fellowship from Disney, for whom he went to work for. Burton found
that the normal Disney film he worked on (The fox and the hound 1981). Disney
let him have the freedom to work on his own personal projects. The supernatural
comedy (Beetlejuice 1988), which was hugely successful. This led to Burton
being trusted with the expensive film Batman (1989). This was the most
successful film of all time, and gave him huge influence in Hollywood. Edward
Scissorhands (1990) saw him at the peak of his creative power. He established a
good link to the actor Johnny Depp.
Nowadays horror films are all high class, glossy and have huge budgets of millions of dollars. We, on the other hand can’t do this, as we do not have any money to spend and no expensive equipment. So we have decided to look into indie horror films and see how they make good quality films without having the money to spend. We were drawn to the film “Paranormal activity”. This film was done on a budget of only $11,000 with 5 people in the whole cast. A handheld camera was used to give the impression of amateur filming. This didn't distract from the gripping and terrifying atmosphere. The “hand held camera” element made the film more realistic to the therefore the audience are more likely to be convinced by it.
